Cozumel, Mexico
The Mysterious Companion and I went to Cozumel to scuba dive. We were staying at a hotel in Playa del Carmen so we had to take the ferry near the Senor Frogs restaurant to get there.
We took a cab from the ferry landing in Cozumel to the south end of the island where we signed up onto a dive boat. It was a dissapointing dive because the noise from many dive boats and the water wasn't clear from all the sand being kicked up by the many divers.
When the dive was over we didn't have enough money for a cab back to the ferry about 11 miles north. We were getting ready to hoof it when a bus driver offered to take us to the ferry. He didn't ask for any money. We got on the bus with mostly local teenagers and a few adults.
There was a beer cooler that the driver said we could help ourselves too, and we did. When we got to the ferry dock, I found an ATM and got some money to give to the driver.
After that we dived at Playa del Carmen. The diving there is outstanding. There's lots of reef at 100 to 120 feet depth. We saw sharks and stingrays. There's also good snorkeling at the bay at our hotel. If you swim out a couple hundred yards there's this coral reef where locals were spear fishing and setting lobster traps.
